Kaprifol

Planter

Wooden barrels make attractive planters, whether combined with a base or placed directly on the ground. Planters have been made in this style for several hundred years, decorating palaces as well as parks. Kaprifol is based on a traditional style found in an eighteenth-century park near Stockholm, and made with traditional wooden staves and metal parts.

Materials and surface treatments

The planter is made from untreated oak slats with steel straps.

Red oak

The quality of red oak is very high, usually without visible knots. Due to its high content of tannic acid, a very high outdoor durability is a given. Red oak that is not maintained gets black spots after a while. The spots gradually fade and after a couple of seasons turn gray, similar to teak. Smaller cracks also usually appear as oak is a very "lively" type of wood. These cracks have a marginal effect on the material's strength and resilience.

Recycled sand cast aluminium

Aluminium recycled from scrap, hand cast in sand moulds. The energy consumption when producing recycled aluminium is about 5% of that used when producing virgin aluminium.

Steel

Nola uses high-quality steel of good strength in our products. Steel rusts if left untreated and must therefore be surface treated. For this we use two main methods for surface treatment of steel parts; electrogalvanizing and powder coating as well as hot-dip galvanizing.

Wood oil

Wood oil provides good protection against the stresses of the outdoor climate and at the same time highlights the wood's natural appearance and properties.

Hot-dip galvanized

Hot-dip galvanizing provides very strong protection against corrosion. The steel is dipped into a bath of hot liquid zinc. The zinc attaches and creates a surface coating on the steel part, which is then taken out of the bath and drained of excess zinc.

Assembly and placement

Freestanding

Freestanding product that is placed directly on the ground.

Fully assembled. The planter and base are delivered separately.

Maintenance

Oiled oak

Oiled oak should be oiled twice a year for best protection. Good maintenance can never completely prevent stains from occurring, but oak that is not maintained will turn blacker and turn gray faster, but it still has a very long life. When re-oiling products, a finely boiled oil that penetrates the wood should be chosen over a film-forming oil.

Sand cast aluminium

Maintenance on aluminium is not normally needed, but make sure to wash and keep the material clean. Untreated aluminium develops a matte surface over time.

Hor dip galvanized steel

Hot-dip galvanized can be touch-up painted with so-called "cold galvanizing".
