Egypt ashtray
Design: Jan OstwaldDescription
Pyramids and sand are symbols of ancient Egypt, and may seem unlikely inspirations for European design. Jan Ostwald’s ingenious design turns them into a stylish ashtray by turning a pyramid-shaped form upside-down and filling it with sand. A metal grate is hidden beneath the surface of the sand, which lifts easily to remove the cigarette ends. The ashtray is made in corten steel that oxidises with time to create a beautifully weathered surface – just like those of the Egyptian pyramids.
Applications
cemeteries, entrances, museums, outdoor cafées, terraces
